SKV Academy Soccer

The Girls Academy is an intermediate program emphasizing fundamental technical skills and their tactical application. Priority will be given to teaching game intelligence, or "soccer IQ". The curriculum is age-appropriate and instruction is provided by qualified coaches under the guidance of the Academy director.

  • The Big Picture

    • Girls Academy is comprised of two different age groups: U8/U9 and U10/U11/U12, though players outside of those age ranges may still play after an evaluation. We will have a mandatory player evaluation prior to the start of the season so we can form balanced teams and assess the players' level of development so we can design an appropriate training plan. There will be two practice sessions each week. The director will design the curriculum and oversee the staff coaches.
    • Players will practice as a team some of the time, and divided in groups based on ability some of the time. Ability training is the best way to develop all players, so they are evenly matched and have the optimal ration of challenge vs success.

    • Teams may change each season to enable the girls to ensure the teams are balanced and remain competitive. This league promotes local competitive play among teams within Girls Academy, and most games are played at the YSI Sports Complex. There are two seasons: fall and spring. Player fees do not include uniforms.

ABOUT JUNIOR ACADEMY

Sporting Kaw Valley offers a spring soccer league for high school players from Lawrence and surrounding communities, and you are invited to register. If you want to continue playing and developing and you are not already on a Premier team, this is for you.

  • Basic Info

The Senior Academy league is much less expensive than Premier soccer, and it involves less travel. You will play 8 league games in Lawrence, and you will receive quality coaching from a great staff, with a curriculum developed by our Sporting Kaw Valley premier coaching staff. You will also have the opportunity to play two Premier tournaments during the season. This mirrors exactly what we do for the younger Boys Academy League brackets.

  • General Format

    • The league will play a 7V7 format, which is gaining popularity throughout the world. The format allows for smaller rosters, more touches per player, and it more easily accommodates the dreaded "six man rule".
    • The league will consist of 8 games played in Lawrence. In addition, we will play two Premier tournaments (11V11 format) by making an Academy Select team in each age group with the top players.
    • That will provide you with at least six more games at the Premier level. You will have two practices per week. We will implement a curriculum to address the specific development needs of this age group.
    • This league will help you to develop and compete at a higher level, and you will see the benefits next fall!

  • Team Formation

    • We will attempt to make teams with players from the same school. If you live in a community near Lawrence we will roster you together with your teammates or class mates. If possible we will schedule local practices for your team. Players from Lawrence will practice at our soccer complex.
  • Cost

    • League cost is the same as for the other age groups in the Academy. The cost will be $325 for the spring league. Uniforms are the same as the Academy wears.
    • There is also an option to participate in the Academy Select program where players form tournament teams and play in 1 or 2 tournaments during the season.
    • If chosen for the Senior Academy Select teams there will be a $85 tournament fee per tournament.
