Sporting Kaw Valley, Sporting KC Academy Affiliate

Sporting Kaw Valley was selected by Sporting KC to become an Official Affiliate Academy because of our commitment to player development, our incredibly talented coaching staff, and the organization’s vision, structure, leadership and professionalism.  It’s truly an honor to be selected by Sporting KC, of Major League Soccer, and we believe that this designation and association carries with it an abundance of individual and organizational expectations.  The “Sporting Way” represents a commitment to doing things the right way, each and every day.  SKV is dedicated to player development and we greatly value continual coaching education, advanced training curriculum, and an individual and collective commitment to helping each of our members reach their potential both on and off the field.  We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Sporting KC and we feel that this relationship ultimately creates very unique opportunities and resources for our coaches and players that few clubs in the region can emulate or replicate.

Sporting Kaw Valley is a not-for-profit organization (501 C 3).  Fulfilling our commitment to player and coaching development, in a fiscally responsible manner, requires resources, administration, and organization.  Maximizing the potential of our members requires experienced coaches, quality practice space, training equipment, curriculum, coaching education, and a talented staff to oversee the functions of the organization.  The money that comes into this organization is ultimately used to provide the resources necessary to maximize the development of all of our members at every level of our organization.  This is a CLUB and every member, regardless of level of participation, is equally important.  Sporting Kaw Valley is committed to providing a program worthy of being named a “Sporting KC Official Academy Affiliate” while making every effort to maximize the development of our members at a fair and affordable price point.

Lastly, Sporting believes that continued training throughout the year is important for players to maintain their fitness, touch, and the team continuity necessary for individuals and teams to continually develop and maximize their potential.  Our Sporting Kaw Valley players, between the age of U10-U14, will play two seasons of soccer and train once a week with their coach from Nov-Feb (excluding holidays).  Players will improve over the winter months and will be more prepared to compete at the start of their spring seasons.  In addition, SKV players will have the opportunity to participate in indoor futsal leagues and/or tournaments and we encourage our players, teams, and coaches to seek out additional opportunities to spend time together in between the fall and spring seasons.  Ultimately, although we may not reside in the same neighborhoods or cities, we all share the same passion and it is from that foundation that we hope to forge new friendships and collective success.  We’re extremely excited about our new partnerships and we encourage you to compare the benefits and “value” that clubs in the region can truly offer their members.

One Vision, One Passion, One Goal, One Club.  We are SKV!

Premier Division

Premier Players/Parents (PSC and SKV Competitive)-

Premier teams are formed by age, ability, tryouts, and have assigned coaches.  Teams will practice twice a week and play games in either Topeka or Kansas City on the weekends (depending upon the level of competitiveness and league enrolled).  In addition to the ability to purchase discounted tickets to SKC games/events, members enrolled in our Premier soccer program, will have the following additional opportunities and/or benefits:

  • Premier players (if they desire) will have the opportunity to try out for and play on more competitive soccer teams (D1, MRL, ECNL, Showcase, Regional SKC Jr Affiliate “Blue” teams, MLS Developmental Academy etc.)
  • Premier players will have the opportunity to participate in specialized Sporting Kaw Valley mini-clinics developed and run by the Sporting KC Sr. & Jr. Coaching/Training staffs.
  • Premier Coaches will have the opportunity to work and train directly with the Sr. and Jr. Coaching and Training staff of Sporting KC throughout the year.
  • Premier Coaches will have access to Sporting KC approved training curriculum and will incorporate this curriculum into their training and coaching.
  • Premier players and coaches will have the opportunity to participate in SKC Jr Affiliate member only training tournaments and events.
  • Premier players and coaches will have access to the Sporting KC training center (at Swope Park) and have opportunities to attend and watch the professional team practice.
  • High School Premier players interested in learning more about playing soccer in college will have the opportunity to attend a specialized “college prep” seminar hosted Sporting KC representatives each year.

Our goal is to form teams with players who have similar abilities and experience at the same level of play. Tryouts will be used to determine a team’s make up, from year to year, and coaches will be evaluated and assigned by our Competition Committee to best match their individual credentials, experience, and strengths.  By combining the players and coaches of both clubs, Sporting Kaw Valley will be able to offer more opportunities for the soccer players in this region to play competitive soccer at a variety of different levels of play.  This could mean, as tryouts usually do, that there may be changes in team make up and coaching assignments from year to year.

At this time, Sporting Kaw Valley is planning on offering two different types of competitive/premier teams (“Local” and “United” based teams) for both male and female soccer players for the upcoming seasons.

Our intention is to field at least one “United” team in every age group from U11-U18 in the both the Boys & Girls Premier Divisions. If there is an abundance of players within a specific age group that are interested in forming more competitive teams, SKV would evaluate whether multiple “United” teams in a specific age group would be in the best interest of the players being developed.  Ultimately, the number and quality of players will drive how many teams are fielded in each age group and geographical location.

Premier tryouts will take place during the 1st weekend after State Cup.  The exact format of the tryouts will be determined later this spring and the tryouts will be overseen by the SKV Director of Coaching (DOC), SKV Age Group Coaching Directors (AGDs), and a select group of coaches and neutral evaluators who have been selected by the DOC and AGDs.
